Aloha Kapunahala Ohana!

It’s time for us to open up the world through our imagination again as a family. We can all learn so much from our experiences, observations, and curiosity! S.T.E.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) is a way for us to explore the world using inquiry and critical thinking skills.

“S” is for science. The knowledge about the natural world that is based on facts learned through experiments and observation.

“T” is for technology. The skills, methods, and processes used to achieve goals.

“E” is for engineering. The process of creating and building structures, products, and systems using math.

“M” is for mathematics. The study of numbers and how they relate to each other and to the real world.

Put them all together and we create an environment full of inquiry, excitement, and a love for learning!  In order to encourage this . . .

We challenge you to build an AIR BLASTER!

Your challenge is to:

1. Imagine how you want to blast the pom pom ball.

2. Plan your air blaster.

3. Make your air blaster by choosing the best materials.

4. Test your air blaster.

5. Improve your design and try other designs using different materials.

Your Air Blaster kit:

Each child will be given a kit with materials through their homerooms to create multiple air blasters with their family. These kits are being provided by Title 1 funds.

Watch the video below to learn about the Engineering Design Process.

Please note that the air blaster created from this activity will not be collected or graded. It is not part of the classroom workload .

The kit will only provide you with materials you will need to create multiple air blasters. An explanation of the process and some sample pictures will be provided in the kit. Your family will independently go through the process to create these air blasters, therefore, no “directions” will be given to assemble the air blaster. Only the process and pictures will be provided. After going through the activity, please fill out the survey on our website.

This is for enjoyment purposes only! The air blaster is your product to keep and enjoy!

S.T.E.M is about discovery.

Be co-discoverers, have fun and enjoy this activity together!
