The ‘Ohana Help Desk is a statewide initiative by the Hawai‘i State Department of Education (HIDOE) to provide technology support to public school students and their parents as they transition to more opportunities for online and blended learning.

STUDENT ACCESS TO DEVICES

Chromebooks, ipads and connectivity devices allow students continuous access to learning at school and home which will lead to increased academic achievement. ​The supplied device will provide each student access to educational materials needed for learning and achievement during the school year. The devices give students access to the G Suite for Education, Seesaw, and other web-based educational tools required by the curriculum.

All devices are the property of HIDOE Kapunahala Elementary. It is an educational tool and not intended for gaming, social media/networking or high end computing.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW

Devices used at school and home for Distance Learning

A Chromebook/ipad/hotspot, and charger are loaned to the student for home use under the following conditions:

  • The use of this equipment for any purpose other than educational use will result in loss of privileges. Devices are monitored by Kapunahala Elementary.

  • The Hawaii Department of Education does not permit unethical use of the internet, email, or any other media. Violation of this policy will result in the loss of device loan privileges and disciplinary action by the school.

  • Parents/Guardians are financial responsibility for the cost of a replacement device due to loss, theft, or damages; (Chromebook/ipad/hotspot: $250, Missing/Damaged Power Cord: $40, Cracked/Damaged Screen: $50, Other: TBD)

  • All devices-Chromebook, ipad, hotspot and chargers are the property of the school, and must be returned at the end of SY 2020-21 or when Kapunahala Elementary requests it be returned. Devices and equipment must be returned in the condition it was received. All devices distributed to the student are in good, working condition.

  • Students/Parents/Guardians are responsible for the general care of the devices. Devices that are broken, damaged, or fail to work properly should be reported right away to the ​school's Technology Coordinator.
